Default e39 burning smell

The e39 hasnt been driven in about a month anh the battery was flat so I jump started it and drove it today.
All seemed ok until we were home tonight and there was avery strong burning smell coming through the vents.
I'll drive it again tomorrow and see if it happens again but if anyone has any ideas please feel free to suggest them

One possibility is that the rocker cover gasket became brittle and cracked, allowing oil to seep out and drip onto the exhaust manifold. Relatively easy to replace though, if it is the cause.

Thanks. I think I'll drive it for the weekend and see if I can work out where it is coming from. There was no sign of it this morning...

John any chance it could be leaves? My E39 is driven very little and im forever cleaning leaves out that have fallen around the vents, perhaps some built up and dried out inside the engine compartment. Long shot but might be as simple as above?
