This is non bmw related, but my mate owns a golf gt tdi 130. recently while accelerating hard there was a slight judder which was like ther was a lack of fuel for a few mili seconds but the car still was eating the road. but the juddder was noticable and he wanted to know what was the story. the car had been serviced the week before by a very reliable mechanic and he recommended to get it hooked up to a diagnostics in a main dealer.
so the car was booked in today (i wont name the dealer) but they sell vw in laois. the car had the usual power as before but with this judder that prevented power for a split second. the mechanics tell him that they will take the turbo out and have a look aswell as hook up the diagnostics and said it will be a 3 hour job to remove it. so he picks up the car at 6pm and the receptionist tells him that he needs a new turbo and the old one is dead. a turbo cant be fine one minute and gone the next!! it should be fine for a few months even if it is on the way out not to mention piles of blue smoke out the back so he brings the car back to the mechanic that serviced it and explains the story and he cant understand how it needs a new turbo because when he had it last the car pulled like a horse perfect bar this judder! so on looking at the turbo that they were supposed to have removed there was no sign of it being touch at all the bolts and nuts had still rust on them there would be marks and scratches of silver metal on the nuts and the cable ties that would have had to be removed were still the old ones. they charged him for a job they didnt do. plus not fixing the original problem and giving him two more problems. the turbo isnt putting out any power even though its spinning when revd. also now the intercooler is leaking oil. and that wasnt leaking before because it had been serviced the week previous and it would have been spotted. im ranting on now! but could it be possible that they are trying to pull a fast one?? they said he'll need to buy a new turbo at 700euro. but the strange thing is even with the turbo out of action at the moment the judder is still there so the problem wasnt the turbo in the first place. and they seem to have caused a leak in the intercooler too. a few other opinions that he got were that it could be a valve or electric problem or something along the fuel line.
