Just won his 9th WRC title (consecutive) on Sunday. I think that's just unbelievable !!!. It's such a pity he's not going for his 10th next year (he's only doing 5 rallies next year).
He has to be one of the bests if not the best in WRC.

Any thoughts ?

Loeb’s WRC career in numbers to date:

9: World titles shared with co-driver Daniel Elena

75: Number of WRC event wins

2: Rallies remaining before he calls time on full-time WRC career

162: Number of WRC starts to date

1999: Year of Loeb’s WRC debut in Catalunya

4: Rounds missed after breaking shoulder in 2006 - he still claimed title

874: Fastest stage times set

1525: WRC points scored

100: Percentage of stages won on Tour de Corse in 2005

23: Different world championship rallies won

6: Record held by Loeb for most WRC event wins in a row, achieved twice

2002: Year of Loeb’s first WRC victory - Rallye Deutschland

9: Number of occasions Loeb has won Germany’s WRC qualifier

11: Victories scored during the 2008 season

3: Types of Citroen World Rally Cars he has driven to victory

8: Different team-mates during WRC career

4: Team bosses worked under

1: Amount of co-drivers employed during WRC career

5: Rallies won at the start of the 2009 season in succession

13: Rounds tackled in 2010, number of times points scored

The best IMO, but won't get the recognition because world rallying is in the doldrums for the last decade. Also, he had a chance to win the title from Solberg in 2003 from what I can remember but Citroen made him back off in Wales to ensure the constructors title instead

You've stated footage is better than facts? How so...?

I have to disagree. you should see me soccer team play, the footage isn't pretty but we won the all-Ireland!

It's not ganging up, you just said that someone's opinion was shite. How is that viable within a discussion..?

iam going to ignore anything said in this thread up to now ;)

Loeb has always been a class apart from the current batch of WRC pilots...but anyone who thinks any of the top ten are a bunch of no hopers needs to catch a hold of themselves...they are all top of their game !!

and to start this whole "Ari V is better than Loeb" stupid discussion....you talking about rally drivers from a whole different generation...and they point is being made thats its almost Loebs fault that he has a car with huge levels of driver aids and brakes and 4wd and all that goes with it...

its the Schumacher / Senna / Fangio arguement all over again

that also applies to comparing McRae and Loeb.....unfair comparision imo

Ive seen Loeb in action in the flesh and the speed and balance are something else...no doubt WRC isnt what it once was but they are still the pinnacle of what rally cars can/will be

and even tho he says he will only do 5 rounds next year who wants to take a bet off me that he will be world champ again next year??

Well said man, they are all great drivers but you can't compare completely different era's, its the same in any sport even hurling, how can you compare Henry Shefflin to Christy Ring etc. Just dismissing the newer WRC drivers because the older cars were more powerful and less technically designed does not make them simply better than Loeb. I've seen him in the flesh in action too and the speed he carries through the stages in unbelievable.

Aaaaaanyway.....

Ari Vatanen was a fine rally driver, but was never in the same league as Rohrl for me. Toivonen was probably the fastest of all the Group B-era drivers, but in the end it caught up with him unfortunately. Biasion, Sainz, Kankkunen, Auriol were probably not any better than each other overall, and this is probably reflected in the way they shared out WRC championships over a number of years. MacRae (Colin), and to a lesser extent Delecour, were crazy fast, spectacular and exciting, but they crashed a lot, and sorry to state the obvious but when you do that you don't win. At the other end of that particular spectrum is Makinen, who did win, quite a lot

It's never just about numbers with stuff like this, but if you look what Loeb has done over his career, he's remained incredibly fast, rarely throws points and victories away, hasn't always had the best car, has managed to tame other top-class drivers (Gronholm, Martin, Solberg, Hirvonen, etc.), and could win in Scandinavia and Finland. I suspect he'll also add to his racing trophies down the line if he goes back to Le Mans too, or whatever else he decides to take part in. The guy is just a legend!

Can't comment on pre-1980s drivers
