Hi, I've a problem with my E46 320 diesel. Its blowing a lot of blue smoke on take off after idling in traffic but after a while there's no smoke. It's burning a little oil but otherwise it's fine. From looking around on forums I'm thinking valve stem seals but I don't know. Does anybody have any other ideas or know how big a job the oil seals is?

Check/replace your breather filter first. Check for oil in the intercooler and boost pipes etc. Valve stem only give trouble at high milers and if badly serviced

Just an update incase anybody else has the same problem. Changed the breather filter to the new vortex type. 40 Euro from BMW. Problem solved.

Thans again to beemerchris. Could have been a costly one.
