Hi guys,

Has anybody modded out the key hole on the driver's door of their E46?

You can buy the part that just clips in - have seen them on eBay - but going for obscene amounts of money. Its definitely something I want to do!!

is it not possible to just get the rear handles from a saloon and fit them ? or are they completely different.

I must be away from my car too long - is there a key hole on the passenger side of an e46? If not I could just go into my local canadian dealership and buy their passangerside one if anyone wanted it?

@ Ken, thanks very much for that, looks really simple!

@ John, there is no key hole on the passanger side, I bought the cover at a dealer in Holland - no, not that kind of dealer ;)

Have just phoned Joe Duffys to order this - theres a pre-painted version coming up on the parts list, so they're checking it out now, the guy had never ordered one before. Will let you know how I get on!

I'll check out mine tonight and let you know what size allen key you need!

How much did they want?

Well, I did it, I would estimate about 60 seconds!!

All thats needed is a 5mm allen key, and the part of course ;)

Looks excellent, very happy ;)

Well, the primered version is...wait for it.... €8

The sprayed one is about €40 I think... and I have to give a big thumbs up to Keith at Joe Duffy's parts department - went out of his way completely to help - even after closing time!! (I was running late!!)

Yet another example of how good Keith is, pity the rest of them aren't as good!!

€32 for painting, diy job I guess??

Just did mine as well. My spray painting has come on as well!! Went with the best tip I ever got - put the paint can in hot water before you use it. Paint went on nice and smooth!! Was always wondering why I ended up with a crappy texture when I painted before. Well happy! :D
