Looks like this is going to go ahead, so I'll just start a thread on it for now.

I have been wanting to do an event like retrostock for the past while, but my current track E36 is too modern to be used.

It just so happens that I have a spare E28 shell lying around, so I've decided that, rather than watch it rot away, I'm going to build it as a drift car.

I'm planning to use an M60 V8 in it, for no other reason than it will be different if I manage to make it work.

It's going to be a struggle & I'm sure a pile of work will be involved, but it should be worth it in the long run.

Hopefully, I'll be making a start at it in the next week or so, it may take a while before its done, but I'm aiming for Retrostock 2015 😊

Thats the job!!! an e28 would look cool as being thrown around a track!:D

Im undertaking a similar sort of build at the minute too, being handy with a grinder and welder is half the battle!

Lots of things to factor in too that would wreck the head…………….exhaust manifolds, engine mounts, sump to subframe clearance, brake master cylinder position, prop shaft length, the list is endless.

it'd be well worth the long hours in the end though, put some pics up when you have it started.

Yeah, there's going to be a fair bit of fabrication work involved it it, but welders & grinders are no stranger here 😉

Will do, I have some repairs to do on the shell before the real conversion work starts but I'll get a few pics up soon.

Also, if anyone has an E28 lying around for spares, I'll be looking for some parts that are missing off mine.
Front windscreen, headlamps & front grille/nostrils for a start.

Right, I suppose it's time for the first few pics :smile:

It's a sad looking affair at the moment as it's been sitting out in the weather for quite a while now, and it's also been hit by fallen trees twice in it's life :D

Anyway, here is the starting point









It's a 1986 528i Auto, it's too far gone really to make it economical to build as a road car, so rather than crush it, I may as well let it go out in style :cool:

Here is the new powerplant I'll be using for the moment



It's an M60B30 from a 1995 E38.

The plan is to get this in & running, use it as is until such time as it gives up & then use the bits off the B30 as OBD1 conversion parts for an M62B44 :D

I'm hoping to get it onto the operating table in the next 2 weeks or so all going well.

I could do with a few parts for the build, so if anyone has, or knows where there is an E28 lying up, give us a shout please :thumb:

Don't forget to disconnect the ABS or you won't see much drifting.

Tell me more about the second tree incident!

I'll be doin more than disconnecting it :D The whole lot is goin out over the nearest ditch !!

Yeah, another tree fell on it earlier in the year. It's jinxed :)

At least there's no trees out on track haha

I have a front grille there if you want it. I forgot to give it to the new owner when I sold mine and only found them in the workshop years later.

No charge. :)

Give us a spin around Rosegreen in it someday.
