Hey all,

The voltage regulator in my e30 316 ('87) is toast, only providing 12V. I was going to get it replaced but an auto electrician told me that I might as well replace the whole (65 amp) alternator, as refitting this part can cause complications. As the alternator is 422 eur and the regulator is 123 euro from a dealer I'd prefer to just do the regulator.

Has anyone refurbished an alternator themselves before? Anyone know where I could get a better deal?

Hey Kev,

Sorry, didn't see your message there. I got a replacement but it didn't fix the problem. Toasted the engine in going to get it too so and now need to get the head skimmed! From bad to much worse!
