I have a '06 E60 520d here. The steering lock failed and gave the ELV error and the car wouldn't start at all for weeks.
I ordered an ELV emulator off Tek-tronics which worked for about 3 weeks and then I started to get an "Ignition Fault" on the iDrive. A week or so later, the car decided to intermittently stop starting. Sometimes the ELV light would come on, sometimes there would be just no dash lights at all.
I've replaced the emulator again and there are no other errors.
Any other ideas?
