I had an knocking issue on one front coilover. Top nut on one coilover was getting lose every week when driving I replaced the nut and problem was gone. Also I would suggest to check drop links as they can cause same knocking and annoying noise.
heard of this on other forums, alot of people say same as you about the springs making the noise, will try and find the threads and forward the link..give cab a call he would knowAnyone have any issues with this? Have them in the E36 and all was ok. Slight noise when turning left to right. Assumed it was mudguards or what ever so. Removed them when putting in new mounts the other day. The sound has gotten worse since and sounds like the springs are hitting off each other is the best way I can describe it.
I will have a more detailed look when I get a chance but we thought it may have been drop links as well. From a quick google this seems to be a common issue. But there are no real answers being given. I'll check the top nuts as I hear they can come loose if not tightened when the car is on the ground.
Anyone?
Thanks.
when u put on the new top mounts and locked the top nuts down did the coilovers spin (rotate) freely...?? or were there locked up tight to the bottom of the top mount...???Anyone have any issues with this? Got a chance to have a look myself. Bit in awe of the results I found now i must say.heard of this on other forums, alot of people say same as you about the springs making the noise, will try and find the threads and forward the link..give cab a call he would know
Now that is interesting. I had washers in the first time around like that and found they were causing more issues than anything noise wise so I removed them as with the JOM bumpstop they shouldn't be required but we all know how that story goeswhen u put on the new top mounts and locked the top nuts down did the coilovers spin (rotate) freely...?? or were there locked up tight to the top mount...???
if there were locked up tight they will make noice when turning and will bang....
i put an extra washer between both the top mount and the coilover.... it allows more direct contact to the bearing in the topmount and allows the coilover to spin around freely when turning, as the coilover is steering on the bearing and not locked up to the rubber mount
also make sure the top mount nuts are good and tight....
Glad to help happy ur sortedSorted
On the money Jimmy
i was going to say exactly same. i had same issue on one side only, took 2 washers as one wasnt enough, and people can only see that when car coil is under the load, when top mount is just sitting there it still may be spinning free without touching, but when under load, it starts roobing, and then just shoots back like a springwhen u put on the new top mounts and locked the top nuts down did the coilovers spin (rotate) freely...?? or were there locked up tight to the bottom of the top mount...???

that will sort the coilover noise if its still banging change your droplinks....
