As above I'd appreciate any help with this query;

I'm fitting a M44B19 spray bar in to the rocker cover of a E30 M42B18.
http://www.e30owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13000&page=12

The spray bar screws in, via a Hollow Bolt (see pics below) to a tapped out/threaded hole in the casting of the M44 rocker cover. The M42 cover those not have this hole.

The Hollow Bolt in the spray bar;

Hollow bolt on it's own

Spray bar removed

and where bolt sits in the engine (above oil pipe)

Therefore I need a nut to fit to the Hollow Bolt to keep it in place. The whole assembly (bolt and spray bar) stays in place with a no. og tiny bolts to two plastic plates fitted to the underside of the rocker cover. The hollow bolt sits directly an oil supply pipe.

The thread on the hollow bolt is not a BS(British Standard) size:mad::mad: Does anyone know what it could be (is it a German Thread)?? or where would one go about sourcing a nut for it. I've tried a few scrappers, garages, motor factors and bicycle shops even an old washing machine:eek: but no joy:confused:

Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why not BMW dealers.

They still carry most of the parts for these cars.

I believe number 3 is this diagram is the bolt that you need. Couple of quid!! Hardly worth getting a second hand one is it?

EDIT

Realise now that you need a nut to match the thread of the bolt and not the bolt itself.

If its German then it will nearly always be metric fitment. It could be a metric fine thread. Especially for this sort of application a fine thread has less chance of working loose.

You should be able to source a nut off the shelf or as above an engineeering shop could make one for you.

I would try a fasteners wholesalers first. If you find somewhere half decent they will probably give you one for free and not make you buy a whole box.

I think Orientblue has has it with an M8 fine.

Thanks guys. It's not a BMW item I'm after as this hollow bolt (as far as I know presently) never came with a nut:(
I'll try an engineering works near here today.

Could you cut off the bit that the bolt screws into in the M44 rocker cover and use it?

Waste of a good rocker cover though.

Is there much difference in the rocker cover from both engines? Could you use an M44 rocker cover on your M42. Might have to chop the gasket a bit maybe? The breather hose looks to be in a different postion.

Screws in to front timing case:(

Correct re the breather hose - it's completely in the wrong place as the top inlet manifold(E30M42 one) strikes it:mad: hence swapping over the spray bar which doesn't exist in the E30M42:mad:
