1. YES
2. NO

DONT JUST VOTE YES AND GIVE NO DETAILS.
If you answer yes please give details of what the symtoms were and how the issue was fixed eg warranty/cost/dealer.

Mine snapped on the m1 on my way home from Dublin in January!

I had the ticking noise witch is a sign of the chain guides wearing but I put it on the long finger.

With towing and other bits it cost me around 2500!
A very unwanted expense In January

I had the ticking sound in my 08 LCI 520d. Started early 2012. Particularly noisy when the engine was cold.
Got goodwill on parts but cost me on labour. Can't actually remember repair bill as I got rid of it shortly after.

I know 3 guys that had issues with their N47 but they don't post in these forums. Also with less than 20 people responding you can't really use that as a reliable sample.

Talk to any specialist BMW mechanic/garage and they'll tell you the true figures - the N47 means business is booming for most of them....

I did. He's my brother in law and is manager of the parts department in a bmw garage. He reckons around 10-20%. Nothing in common between the cars. Im trying to figure out how is this.
If its a fault in the design they should all go at a similar mileage or at least be a much higher percentage of failures.
Very weird one and I am wondering is it worth selling a mint 5 series sport because of this.

Might want to try other sources than BMW garage - last place I'd bring it to, based on cost alone and people will sometimes source their parts outside of the Irish BMW network. With that in mind, might want to revise that figure up to 30% so far.... and the rest to follow at some stage in their life !!

Bavarian in Abbeyfeale had 4 of them lined up and in various stages of strip/rebuild.

My timing chain started to "scrape" at 60,000 miles. I was missing a service stamp and my local dealer got €2,995 off me in labour with parts allegedly paid for under good will gesture.

I've had a few n47's without any issues. Reduced service intervals by 50% on all of them though. Dunno if I'd want an n47 that was only serviced every 20k miles.
