Is that not the damper? Thanks for the diagram I had misunderstood the workings of it. So its either a pulley or that damper is gone. any ideas how to tell?

 

that piece is the tensioner & damper all in one... got mine for the 325TDS for about 50euro delivered from england..

theres a noticable difference with how hard the spring is compared to the old one, using the Specialist BMW tool called a nail bar was the only way we could find to depress the tensioner enough to get the belt on with the new one.

 

Same here had to use a prize bar to take tension off the belt to install the new tensioner.

 

Cheers men. Replaced this and its perfect now,E48 from the mfactors. I had to put the belt back on the cowboy way though turn the belt onto the bottom pulley,didnt have a lever with me to do it properly. Thanks for the help!
