Autobrite Magifoam - My Review

Over the past few weeks there has been a bit of debate about whats the best snow foam, and today I managed to get the chance to use Autobrite Magifoam.
The current foam I use is Meguiars HyperWash.

This is my opinion - others will vary! ;)

So here we go.....

Car had been fully detailed (Petes 53 protection) prior to Blarney (2 weeks ago), but hadnt been washed since- not overly dirty; had been driven on dry and wet roads, good few miles include the return leg from Cork - mainly dusty and water spots with dust (bit of the ash from the volcano Im guessing).

Car had be sitting pretty much in the shade for 30-40mins

I put a fair bit of Magifoam into the bottle of the lance, maybe 2" at the bottom as per instructions and fill the rest with water.
Spray through the lance directly onto a dry car
Left to dwell - went inside to fill the 2 buckets
After 2/3 minutes I came back to have a look and the solution was clinging well.
After 7/8 minutes I came back and the solution was still clinging to the car, but it seemed to have dried out (car in the shade)
Rinsed the car off with the power washer, giving the car a good rinse, trying to cover all the car with direct spray contact.
Inspected - car for the most part was very clean
Washed using the 2BM
Dried

How did it perform??...

Is it a good snow foam??
Yes, it sticks to the car well, longer dwelling time than the Hyperwash

Did it perform better than the Hyperwash?
Hard to say as the car wasnt heavily soiled - performed as well as I would have expected the Hyperwash to, but the car was recently waxed so this would help cleaning

Would I consider it a No Touch Wash?
While the rinse bucket was reasonably clean, the water was still very discoloured and there was a small amount of dirty at the bottom of the bucket. The paintwork appeared very clean, but I found a few places where the power washer direct spray missed and it was still dirty in these patches. Which you're never going to get 100%.....
.....so as a No Touch Wash - absolutely not!!
But if you were in a rush to spruce up the car, and NOT planning to dry it, clay it, etc, then yes, it would do a decent job.

Does is strip protection?
Too early to say...though I will use it a few more times and see how I get on and report back! The instrucitons "say" it wont though!

Conclusions.....
Overall a good product....so far (need to use it more)
Worked well on a lightly soiled car...remains to see how it will perform on a heavier soiled car! Reckon, but again remains to be proven, it would be a very handy product for using during the winter, to get some of the crud off the car, when you are in a rush to give it a rinse because you dont want to be in the cold too long.
Definately dwells longer than Hyperwash, but then Hyperwash doubles up as a shampoo for the 2BM; instructions on the Magifoam say best used from a lance and no mention of shampoo.
Dilution ratios.....Magifoam 100:1, Hyperwash 400:1

So far so good...will definately give it a few more goes to see how it works out! :)
And Ill report back any other findings!
If you have any questions, fire away, Ill do my best to answer them! ;)

On the darker cars I wouldnt let it cling so long, your going to get water spots showing up with it, if it dries up.

I have to admit, I dont use 2BM after it, thats the reason I use it, and it does a good job- and its absolutely miles ahead of hyperwash, but hyperwash is still for me the best for 2BM so its not been relegated completely!

I found that a lot depends on the power of your pressure washer also, naturally enough.

I can leave it on mine easily 25mins! It turns to sour looking milk!

The negative is, the foam sits on the ground for hours after, in the winter it froze on me, so I had to go out and smash it up incase someone slipped outside my house!

Well I left it definately no more than 10 mins, and it says on the instructions, that its good for 30 mins, so I was kind of surprised when it dried out so quickly...maybe I put too much in the mixture....less next time perhaps! :)

Its miles ahead for clinging / dwell time, I will agree there....but cant agree with you on how well it lifts dirt...just yet anyways :p
Hyperwash is good as it doubles up as a shampoo and absolutely great value for money with the 400:1 dilution! ;)

I have the Nilfisk C120, which is a 1200W (i think) machine, and its a very capable...what are you using?
Extra power may be better for getting a slightly better foam, but not so good for the paintwork....unless its variable of course.

I'd say on the boot lid, roof and bonnet, I could have left it maybe 15 mins. Maybe the car was still a bit warm from being in the sun earlier, being a black car, but still would have expected it to last 15 mins if the instructions say 30...I will try a slightly more watery solution next time and see how I fair out; but definately the sides had dried out and left much longer would have left marks as you say! ;)

No hassle Dean!! ;)

€25 for a 5l bottle AFAIK, which is reasonable enough, if you plan to do a fair bit of snowfoaming, but as you know the Hyperwash is good as its doubles up and has the crazy dilution ratio.

However, if Im impressed by the Magifoam over a longer test period, a bottle of Hyperwash, just for shampoo, would last me a life time!! :D :D

I'm using the E130, but I was referring to the previous one I had which was crap! Have to say for lifting dirt in a dirty car, I think there's no comparison!

Maybe the car was warm or something Iduno, I comfortably get longer but being silver water spotting isn't as noticeable- I haven't noticed any at all!! Your car would never be dirty enough to know anyways

Really......my bad....that'll explain why it didnt work so well!

I found with the Hyperwash that it was better not to wet the car! This will make it interesting to see how the Magifoam performs under proper conditions! :)

So I used the Magifoam again today.....following the directions properly this time  Last time I sprayed the foam directly onto the car when it was dry! This time I gave the car a spray of water.

I didnt really notice any difference between putting it on a wet car or a dry car. Found that it dried out just as quick as the last time....the bonnet and roof were dry after about 6-7 mins and the reast would have lasted about 10 mins max, even though the insructions say 30 mins.

Here is a shot of the car from above 4-5 mins after foaming the car

And here's a short video of how it looked after I came down stairs from taking the shot above

Had the 2nd go with Magifoam today and im not very happy with the dwell time either! the main picture is after about 4-5 min's with the 2" of Magifoam in the bottle which should, if you go by the directions, give dwell times 20-30 mins

But im very impressed with the cleaning power  if it did dwell for even 10-15 mins the results would be amazing!!

My verdict is...cleans bettter the the Valet pro stuff im using but doesnt dwell for half that time so might mixed them up next time see what happens :D:D

Found that it would probably rinse off easily enough, were it to let dry for a while...but what bothered me was that, when it dries oukt, it got built up in the nook and crannies and didn't wash away, because it needs direct spray from the power washer.....so when I opened the boot hours after washing, it left a residue in the water run off areas on the boot and bonnet!

Chris gave me a sample of Valet Pro....so I too will try a combo...to try extend the dwell time! ;)
