The manual is always right, also depends on the load in the car ie. Passengers and luggage. Always check pressures when Tyres are cold

 

Manual and are you sure they're not 225/55/16 tyres ?

 

Manual... in mine (235/45/17 front) and 255 something 17 on the back its 2.9 bar (42psi) on the back and 2.6 (37.7) front.

There should be a sticker on on the drivers door sill that shows it. The various tyre measurements and the recommended pressures.

Mine's a Touring model. I stick in 33psi all around. A car with the oft-stated 50/50 weight distribution should have similar tyre pressure all around. The manual is wrong

(but when in holiday mode, with car loaded to the gunwales, 42 rear, 35 front).

 

Put them up to proper pressure and better fuel economy

 

I wouldn't have thought 42psi in an unladen car would do much for the handling, ride quality or central tyre wear....

 

I have an e39 533 born 24/12/99, 192k miles and find 33psi rears, 31 fronts works well.Lovely sound through 3100 rpm too! Cant beat that straight 6 👍

 

Ya know what Ken, I'll give it a go and do it by the book for a month.

My only bit of a concern is that the four new tyres are, er, not exactly premium brand and get a bit slippy when well pumped up! Great craic on the roundabouts though.

Great craic until you have to hop on the brakes and you go sliding/sideways/backwards into the back of a bin lorry or something....
