Had "Engine Malfunction" and what can only be described as sudden power loss (couldn't even get car off the main carriageway).
Has happened few times over past year. Has also suffered from occasional hesitation pulling out from a junction.
All extremely dangerous (life threatening) issues!
Dealer saying it's the EGR but struggling to believe above symptoms are related to a common issue like EGR failure?

Car is 2010, auto with low miles. Car will usually start again and drive fine few minutes after the fault has come up.

Anyone heard of similar issues before?
Think I'm done with BMWs from here on out. At least other manufacturers own-up to their problems ..... e46 sub-frames, 20d timing chains, etc. More interested in protecting profits than customer satisfaction. Feel we're badly treated here relative to US, UK, etc.

OK .... gripe over :)

Thanks for reply.
Will have to ask them exactly what codes were thrown. None had shown on a generic reader.
So you don't believe these are symptoms of an EGR but possibly crank position sensor?
Was thinking bad ecu another possibility ...

I'm not saying it is anything at all.
Generic Diag on these is a waste of time and that includes €5k+ kit

Get a good dealer or properly equipped specialist to look at it.
Beware, it may mean being without car for a few days to diagnose properly.

In one case I know of it took a dealer tech (doing a nixer) 10 days to figure one out. And the Dealer had previously failed.

They're a brilliant, fabulous car but sometimes they can be a pain due to how good (complex) they are.
